Student Supervisor

Fredericton, NB (Sept. 08 – April 09)

Special Events Coordinator
Fundy Geological Museum
Parrsboro, NS (July – Sept. 08 )
Though my job title this summer was special events coordinator, I did not actually coordinate any special events. I spent most of my time helping the lab staff get a better understanding of their job, and essentially working as an ad hoc supervisor for the lab. I also wrote press releases, and performed a variety of other odd jobs, including doing beach tours, setting up and working the gem and mineral show (an annual trade show), and even cleaning the gallery.
Curatorial Assistant
Fundy Geological Museum
Parrsboro, NS (May – Sept. 07)
I was responsible for cataloguing the collection room of the museum. This meant recording location information and photographing every specimen, as well as improving the storage conditions. Also co-designed a new exhibit for the gallery, as well as worked in the fossil lab preparing dinosaur bones for storage.
Research Assistant
Fundy Geological Museum
Parrsboro, NS (May – Sept. 06)
I worked as a preparator in the fossil lab of the museum. This meant carefully removing sandstone from very fragile dinosaur bones. In the later part of the summer, I was part of a team that removed dinosaur bones from a cliff face in Wasson Bluff. The bones were eventually identified as a new species.
Research Assistant
Fundy Geological Museum
Parrsboro, NS (July – Sept 05)
Worked as a summer intern at the museum, doing the job of a preparator in the fossil lab. Which means carefully removing the sandstone from around a dinosaur bone and ensuring it is preserved as much as possible.
